Pierce and Dr. James Dobson

I had mentioned before, that I want to be able to get on the "Focus On The Family" radio broadcast, by Dr. James Dobson. I have always listened to this broadcast, for well over a decade now. I have enjoyed it, learned from it, cried from it. In so many ways the stories on this broadcast have touched my heart, and taught me something to deepen my life with God. Just everyday, normal struggles, that people have to go through. They share that and they also share how God brought them through it.

During my journey with Pierce, God taught me many things. HE blessed me in many ways. Ways that I want to share with people. Our journey was so hard as a parent to go through. The up's and down's and fears and tears, of not knowing if Pierce was going to survive. I had to just sit back and let God's work be done. A scripture that I held onto during that time was... Be still and know that I am God. That is so true. No matter what the circumstances are like, you have to give it all to God. We can't change His plans, but, He has promised to be with us, and bless us through lives struggles. That is exactly what he did for me, during my journey with Pierce.

This is a letter that a friend of mine sent to the "Focus On The Family" radio broadcast. It really touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I would have never met this friend, had it not been for Pierce's journey. God put her into my life for a reason and I am so grateful for that. I truly believe that once God closes a door, He opens another one for us. Even though God chose to take Pierce home with Him, He blessed me with so many new friends to carry me through.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I write to ask how does one get to be interviewed for your broadcasts? My friend, Leah Helms, shared her journey through the 2 1/2 months of her CHD baby's life and ultimate death with more grace & faith than anyone could imagine, & in so doing led thousand of people to the foot of the cross in prayer. Her facebook page has thousands of friends, & tens of thousands have logged on to her baby Pierce's page, many who had never prayed before or who had strayed from God's path returning to pray for baby Pierce. This is a woman from a small town in Mississippi who boarded an airplane against doctors' advice the day after giving birth by cesarean section to fly to the bowels of Washington, D.C., having never been on a plane before, to be with her baby. She was here alone through most of Pierce's stay at National Children's Hospital, facing the possible death of her child and watching his condition deteriorate, but her faith in God and His mercy never wavered, even when her purse with all her money, ID, family pictures, plane ticket home, everything was stolen from the hospital day room. When Pierce's condition worsened to the point that his only option was a heart transplant, Leah boarded another plane, this time with her son, bound for Little Rock, Arkansas, but not before distributing clothes and food she'd accumulated here to people in the DC hospital. Still, she kept her faith and shared it with thousands via Facebook and CaringBridge. And what makes all this even more amazing is that Leah had given another young son back to God 6 years earlier in a tragic automobile accident, but she has never shown bitterness nor despair. Her faith is in Her Savior, and she constantly relies on her belief that His plan for her life is a good plan and daily shares that faith with others. I fervently believe God put Leah on this earth at this time, took Jonathan to refine her faith, and sent baby Pierce to be a conduit for His Word through Leah who has been purified through His love and the experiences God has led her through.

She has "a story to tell to the nations," as the old hymn says, and you have the ability to help her tell it. A light of faith this strong and pure should not be hidden under a bushel, but made visible and audible to the world. Please consider inviting her to speak on your broadcast.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of Leah Helms as a positive contributer to your mission.

If you have the time, please e-mail Dr. James Dobson's web sight, Focus On The Family. Share with them Pierce's story and maybe they will decide to let me air my journey with Pierce. I could touch that someone's heart with my story or even bring them closer to God, just like many that I have listened to the last decade did for me.

Pierce Allen Helms Memorial

Congenital Heart Defects affects more than 40,000 infants in the U.S, that's 1 in 100 children born each year. It strikes more children than any other childhood disease. We need to raise the level of awareness of Congenital Heart Defects. CHD kills more children then cancer everyday. I have started this blog to share my journey about Pierce with you. Also to help raise awareness about all the children with Congenital Heart defects and what these families go through. God Bless and I hope to inspire, and help anyone that reads this blog!
